Rat Mesenteric Artery Function after Hindlimb Suspension

چکیده
Study #1: We specifically examined resistance artery function from the mesentery, because vasosonstriction of this vascular bed is important for orthostatic tolerance, and because others have reported that there is reduced ability to constrict this vascular bed after hindlimb suspension (McDonald et al., J. Appl. Physiol. 72: 2210-2218, 1992; Overton & Tipton, J. Appl. Physiol. 68: 355-362, 1990). Vascular function was assessed by measuring responses to vasoconstrictors, a vasodilator, pressure, and flow.

Rat small mesenteric artery function after hindlimb suspension.
To determine whether simulated microgravity in rats is associated with vascular dysfunction, we measured responses of isolated, pressurized mesenteric resistance artery segments (157- to 388-microm ID) to vasoconstrictors, pressure, and shear stress after 28-day hindlimb suspension (HS). Results indicated no differences between HS and control (C) groups in 1) sensitivity or maximal responses to...
متن کاملEffects of hindlimb unloading on rat cerebral, splenic, and mesenteric resistance artery morphology.
Hindlimb unloading (HU) of rats induces a cephalic shift in body fluids. We hypothesized that the putative increase in cranial fluid pressure and decrease in peripheral fluid pressure would alter the morphology of resistance arteries from 2-wk HU male Sprague-Dawley rats. To test this hypothesis, the cerebral basilar, mesenteric, and splenic arteries were removed from control (C) and HU animals...
متن کاملEffects of simulated microgravity on arterial nitric oxide synthase and nitrate and nitrite content.
The aim of the present work was to investigate the alterations in nitric oxide synthase (NOS) expression and nitrate and nitrite (NOx) content of different arteries from simulated microgravity rats. Male Wistar rats were randomly assigned to either a control group or simulated microgravity group. For simulating microgravity, animals were subjected to hindlimb unweighting (HU) for 20 days. Diffe...
متن کاملThe vasodilatory action of telmisartan on isolated mesenteric artery rings from rats
Objective(s): Angiotensin Ⅱ type 1 receptor blockers (ARBs) represent one of the widely used antihypertensive agents. In addition to anti-hypertension effect, some ARBs also show other molecular effects such as activating peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-γ and so on. Here we studied the effects of telmisartan on the rat isolated mesenteric artery rings pre-contracted by phenylephrine ...
متن کاملMitochondrial Regulation of NADPH Oxidase in Hindlimb Unweighting Rat Cerebral Arteries
Exposure to microgravity results in post-flight cardiovascular deconditioning and orthostatic intolerance in astronauts. Vascular oxidative stress injury and mitochondrial dysfunction have been indicated in this process. To elucidate the mechanism for this condition, we investigated whether mitochondria regulated NADPH oxidase in hindlimb unweighting (HU) rat cerebral and mesenteric arteries. F...
